The Dunedin Youth Orchestra is delighted to welcome internationally acclaimed Belgian pianist and composer Daniel Verstappen for a special collaborative concert at Hanover Hall.

Verstappen has performed on stages around the world, such as Carnegie Hall and Sydney Opera House and is currently touring New Zealand as part of his international concert series. Known for his expressive style and cinematic musical language, he brings together classical tradition and contemporary influences in performances that connect with audiences of all backgrounds.

For the young musicians of the Dunedin Youth Orchestra, this project represents a unique opportunity. Working alongside an international soloist offers a rare chance to experience music-making at a professional level and to explore new artistic perspectives.

The programme brings together Daniel Verstappen’s original compositions with iconic classical and cinematic music, including Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake, Bach’s dramatic Toccata, and powerful film scores such as Interstellar by Hans Zimmer and Chevaliers de Sangreal from The Da Vinci Code — creating an exciting and uplifting concert experience.

We warmly invite family, friends, and supporters of the orchestra to join us for what promises to be a memorable evening of music in the beautiful setting of Hanover Hall.

You can also listen to a recent RNZ interview with Daniel Verstappen and Joe Harrop discussing the project and its wider musical vision.
