Auditions will be by submission of a video recording. Auditions open on the 1st of February and will close on Friday 20th February at 8pm. Percussionists may submit their audition on Saturday 21st February. All previous members must also re-audition if they wish to be considered for a place in the orchestra in the forthcoming year.
Your audition needs to be recorded in one take in one video. Multiple uploads and edited videos will not be accepted. Here are the steps to recording your audition:
- State your full name.
- Announce and perform your chosen piece of music. This needs to be 2 minutes of music from any piece of your choice aiming to show your musical and technical abilities. Percussionists are excluded from this requirement.
- Announce and record each extract(s) selected by our audition panel. See Audition Music.
Once you have your completed video recording, upload to YouTube following these instructions:
- Go to https://www.youtube.com
- Sign in or create an account
- Click upload
- Set privacy setting to ‘unlisted’ (this is very important)
- Upload your audition clip
Copy the generated YouTube link and use it to fill out the audition form.
Audition videos will be considered by the audition panel on the 24th and 25th February, and the players who have been selected for the 2026 Dunedin Youth Orchestra will then be notified on Wednesday 26th February.
General messages (including when audition results will be put on the website) will also be posted on the Dunedin Youth Orchestra Facebook page, so you may wish to follow this page to get any notifications.
The first rehearsal is on Friday 27th February at 5:00pm in the Dunedin Symphony Orchestra rooms (Hanover Hall), 65 Hanover St.
Please read the Player Commitment information, check the semester one dates, and ensure you can make the required commitments. If you cannot meet these requirements, and have already auditioned, then please notify us and we will withdraw you from the audition process.
