2022 Audition Information

Auditions closed on Friday 25th February. However, late auditions are being accepted for a number of sections. Please email us at [email protected] if you have any queries.

For 2022, auditions will be by submission of a video recording.

You will need to record all your audition music in one take in one video. Multiple uploads and edited videos will not be accepted. Please state your full name at the beginning of the audition and record the audition music in the following order, announcing before each: technical skills, lyrical skills, and each extract.

a) Record 1 minute of music from any concerto, sonata, study or other that shows your technical level and skills.

b) Record 1 minute of music from any concerto, sonata or other that shows your melodic or lyrical playing.

c) Record the extracts our panel have chosen (see audition music page)

Once you have your completed video,  then upload to YouTube following these instructions:

  1. Go to https://www.youtube.com
  2. Sign in or create an account
  3. Click upload
  4. Set privacy setting to ‘unlisted’ (this is very important)
  5. Upload your audition clip
  6. Copy and paste video URL(link) into, and complete the, online registration form.

You will NOT be able to submit the registration form before you have your audition recorded and ready.

Audition videos will be considered by the audition panel on 28th February and 1st March, and the players who have been selected for the 2022 Dunedin Youth Orchestra will then be listed here on Thursday 3rd March. Please check this list to see whether your application to join DYO has been successful. Individual emails will not be sent out.

Proof of a COVID-19 vaccination pass will be required for membership of the orchestra in 2022.

General messages (including when audition results will be put on the website) will also be posted on the Dunedin Youth Orchestra Facebook page, so you may wish to follow this page to get any notifications.

The first rehearsal is on Friday 4th March at 5:45 pm in the Dunedin Symphony Orchestra rooms (Hanover Hall), 65 Hanover St.

Please read the Player Commitment information and also check the semester one dates, and ensure you can make the required commitments. If you cannot meet these requirements, and have already auditioned, then please notify us and we will withdraw you from the audition process.
